Aging-in-Place

Make Your House a Home For a Lifetime

What is aging-in-place exactly? If you are like the majority of Americans you want to continue living at home in a familiar environment throughout your maturing years. Aging-in-place means living in your home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age or ability level so that you can age in place and not have to move to assisted-living facilities as you age. Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists (CAPS) also help make homes more “visitable.” Even if a home owner doesn’t currently need additional task lighting, grab bars, and other home modifications for their own use, their family members and visitors might. CAPS design takes your current and future circumstances into consideration.
CAPS design principles focus on elegant, aesthetically enriching, barrier-free environments. These are changes that can actually increase the value of your home, according to some realtors. The National Association of Home Builders, in partnership with the AARP and NAHB Research Center, created the CAPS program, which includes training and education on the technical, business management and customer service skills essential to compete in the fastest-growing segment of the residential remodeling industry — home modifications for aging-in-place.

Valerie, of Valerie Lynn Interiors, LLC, is one of the select group of professionals nationwide to earn the CAPS designation, identifying her as an interior designer with the skills and knowledge necessary to remodel or modify a home to meet the unique needs of the older population, disabled owners, or their visitors. She provides curb to backyard residential assessments in order to determine that the occupants can live safely and securely at home and enlists a team of professional experts, including financial planners, to help individuals create their “HOME FOR A LIFETIME.”

Valerie looks forward to helping homeowners in Collier and Lee counties make the changes they need to enable them to live in their homes for a long, long time.
